Vimeo has announced the launch of Adaptive Streaming. The player update enables video streams in 4K Ultra HD quality—for videos on vimeo.com and those embedded on other websites. Content on Vimeo On Demand is also supported.
Adaptive Streaming automatically provides optimized video quality up to a resolution of 4K Ultra HD, naturally depending on the respective internet connection and playback platform.
Vimeo already enabled 4K uploads for Pro account users last year. With the increasing prevalence of screens with 4K Ultra HD resolution, Vimeo will soon make the service available to all users.
Vimeo Apps Also Support Adaptive Streaming
Last month, Vimeo already updated its Cameo video-editing app for iOS. Cameo now supports 4K videos recorded on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Adaptive Streaming is also planned for Vimeo’s iOS and Apple TV apps. Updates for all Vimeo apps, including Android and Amazon TV, are expected to follow soon.
Adaptive Streaming is to be rolled out gradually to Vimeo users. Complete integration is planned for the beginning of 2016.
