Five emerging filmmakers from Central Germany successfully presented their projects to fellow campaigners and experts in advance at this year’s MDM Nachwuchstag KONTAKT. In the next step, they must now convince the audience of their project and recruit members of the online community on the Startnext crowdfunding website so that they can finance the project through crowdfunding.
Private Plus Public Funding
With this competition, MDM, together with Startnext, the leading crowdfunding platform for creative projects in the German-speaking region, is entering into a cooperation that has been unique to date, because for the first time public funding is being linked to crowdfunding and thus to the audience’s decision. “This cooperation represents another important milestone toward cofunding models between private and public funding,” said Startnext co-founder Tino Kreßner.
The three filmmakers who inspire the most supporters for their project by August 1, 2012 will also receive prize money from MDM totaling 2,000 euros as start-up financing on Startnext. First place receives 1,000 euros, while second and third place each receive 500 euros. The amount of the support does not matter; all support from 1 euro upward is counted.
Projects
After the competition, the crowdfunding campaigns will continue until their respective end date. Competing for the most crowdfunding fans and the MDM pitching prize are Deniss Kacs with his documentary “Auf der Suche nach Ringo", Julian Pörksen with the drama “Kinder,” Duc Ngo Ngoc with the short feature film “Entwurzelt,” Katja Uhlig and André Martini with the animated film “Totenmesse,” as well as Kathrin Lemcke with “vierte generation singular perfekt,” an essayistic documentary.
