Optibase announces the success of VideoGateway trials

HERZLIYA, Israel, Feb. 4, 2002--Optibase Ltd. (Nasdaq:OBAS), a leader in broadband streaming solutions, today announced the successful completion of trials conducted by the VideoGateway Consortium.

Under the auspices of the European Union Research and Development Program, Optibase has led the „VideoGateway“ Consortium in developing a video streaming server for broadband networks.

T-Systems, a division of Deutsche Telekom and Europe“s second-largest systems house, conducted trials of the VideoGateway for Business TV applications, utilizing live video streaming as well as storage and on-demand retrieval functions. These tests included integration of the VideoGateway with Sycomore“s PeakServer video server. Telecom Italia Lab, the Telecom Italia Group“s company for the development of innovation and new business opportunities, deployed a TV over IP application and tested interoperability of different encoders (servers) and players (clients) over a Corporate LAN, an ADSL network, and over RESEAU, Telecom Italia“s pilot VDSL network. Teracom conducted both fixed and mobile e-learning trials. Three different trials included PAL over IPoATM, WMT over IPoDVB-T and ISO/MPEG4 over IPoDVB-T. The University of Athens conducted a series of distance learning trials aimed at evaluating the system“s validity for such applications, the performance of the MPEG-4 transmitter and associated players, and to verify the transcoding rate adaptation features.

„We are pleased with the positive feedback received from our partners in the Consortium,“ said Jay Plawner, VP Marketing of Optibase. „The VideoGateway underwent a series of diverse and exhaustive trials that were meant to validate it as a high performance streaming platform. The aim of the Consortium was to leverage the combination of Optibase“s unique technology and the Consortium members“ expertise in service offerings — design, solution integration and trials — in order to create a platform that can answer the need for high revenue TV applications which can be implemented on broadband networks. The results received from the stringent trials proved we have met our goal.“
