844/X Boosts Productivity at Magic Eye

12th November 2002, Media 100 GmbH, a leading provider of advanced media systems, today announced that post-production specialist Magic Eye is the latest German customer to commit to 844/X.

„We first heard about 844/X in 2001 and couldn’t wait to get our hands on it, thinking the reported high performance must be too good to be true. We’ve worked in close collaboration with Media 100 over the last year as one of the worldwide beta sites for 844/X and the system has really wowed us – it’s more than lived up to expectations,“ said Florian Peters, co-founder of Magic Eye. „844/X compared very favourably to other high-end products we’ve

considered, particularly with regards to the price/performance ratio and has also proved easy to integrate into our existing Quick Time-based workflow.“

Most recently, 844/X has demonstrated its speed and power in a series of high-profile jobs for clients including Warner, Land Rover and Sony

Pictures. In a video documentary for the launch of the new Range Rover, created in June 2002, 844/X proved its worth. „As usual with this kind of job, the client changed his mind on headlines and text several times. 844/X gave us the flexibility to react to these changes quickly without re-rendering everything, – and without stress levels rocketing – keeping us within deadline and budget. It was also a fast and highly effective tool for colour correction and design,“ commented Peters.

In another recent job for Sony Pictures, 844/X was used to juggle the

various elements involved in putting together the closing credits for a comedy show, „OLM!“ The credit is built with several animated logos,

split-screen and animated masks. „844/X was the only tool that could handle all these different layers and composite them together in real-time. Because of the speed we’re able to obtain instant feedback on changes which enables us to work much more precisely than previously,“ added Peters.

Founded in 1993, Magic Eye started out as a mainly broadcast post-production house, and has grown to handle the entire production process from scripting to finishing. Producing a range of materials including TV shows, commercials, video-clips, openers and video material, Magic Eye has used Media 100 systems, purchased via MT Hallen in Ratingen, since 1996.
