At the IBC (stand 7.621), Harris is showing, among other things, new partnerships and products for video and audio storage. The partners are Isilon Systems in the storage market and VT Communications in the field of data management for storage and playout.
The future collaboration with Isilon Systems aims at a cluster model for data storage on Harris’ NEXIO video-server platform. The basic idea is to connect smaller or medium-sized servers so that a maximum storage capacity of currently 528 TBytes for SD and HD signals becomes possible. Storage, data management and playout run on a file-based infrastructure. Simultaneous distribution of SD and HD videos is possible, and audio and metadata are also played out.
Together with VT Communications, Harris will in future offer a new multimedia program distribution. In future, Harris will offer the software developed by VT on its Intraplex NetXpress platform. Harris intends to use it to provide applications for integrated asset management as well as network automation. The different video and audio programs can then be distributed as a data stream or live as a broadcast signal by cable and satellite in SD or HD and with the metadata. At the heart is the so-called “Intelligent Media Mover”, with which existing video and audio data is reformatted for further applications. Data files can thus be reformatted, for example, for podcasting, streaming or mobile media.
At the IBC, Harris also launched an updated version of its Broadcast Master planning and broadcast automation system in version 8. Broadcast Master 8 combines various management functions for program planning, from program storage and rights management through playlist development and advertising-time sales to broadcast-sequence planning. The new version also enables the handling of HD channels.
