Autodesk is presenting version 2007 of the Inferno, Flame, Flint, Fire and Smoke systems. All products now support Autodesk Wiretap, which gives all systems access to the previously closed Stone file system. This also allows systems from other providers such as Thompson K2 or Telestream FlipFactory to access the media and metadata of the Discreet systems. The connection takes place with Infiniband, which makes data rates of 400 MB/s and more possible. The new versions also support AAF, making it easier to take over projects from other programs such as Avid Xpress or Apple’s Final Cut Pro.
The new workflow features include complete project backup and background generation of proxies. All programs in the compositing and editing line have also been optimised for 64-bit Linux in order to achieve even better performance.
The software updates are to be available in September; because of the many configuration options, prices can only be requested directly from dealers.
The Lustre colour-grading system also comes with a new 2007 version, which now runs under Windows. In the new version, collaboration with other edit suites has been improved in particular. This allows material to be graded before the edit is complete. This works both with media data located on Autodesk’s own Stones and with media on open file systems. Autodesk’s likewise new Wiretap technology is responsible for this.
Capturing, rendering and playout can now take place with both interlaced and full-frame material. Lustre 2007 offloads many grading tasks to the GPU, which considerably improves performance. Lustre 2007 now also comes with a dust-busting module for the digital cleaning of film material. With the help of the scanner’s infrared pass and motion-compensation technology, Lustre removes dirt and scratches from the film image.
The three expansion levels “Lustre Master Station”, “Lustre HD Station” and “Lustre Station” are to be available later this month. The respective price can only be requested directly from specialist retailers.
