NewTek announces update for LightWave 3D

Update to version 9.5 brings hair and fur simulation and a completely new lighting system, promises advances in Global Illumination

NewTek has announced the latest version of its LightWave 3D program: LightWave 9.5 is initially to be available as an ‘Open Beta’ from the beginning of March. Owners of version 9 can register online to take part in the beta phase.

With regard to LightWave 9.5, the company speaks of the program’s fourth ‘Major Update’, encompassing significant extensions. These include, for example, the new hair and fur simulation as well as the improved IK and animation systems. Alongside improvements to Modeler and extended surface options, the completely new lighting system stands out in particular. In addition, NewTek has accelerated Global Illumination (GI), introduced new controls and a GI Disk Cache for rendering and, according to the company, also increased GI quality. The Node Editor, the user interface and the workflow within the program have also been improved.
