First, artists need an Autodesk 360 account to log in to Project Pinocchio. This is free and offers easy access to the Autodesk cloud. A web browser is also required; Project Pinocchio is compatible with with the current version of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox as well as Microsoft Internet Explorer version 9 or later.
According to Autodesk, Project Pinocchio uses 3D design and animation tools so that users can create their own fully rigged 3D character in the web-based application – designed entirely to their personal taste. A character can be created completely from scratch, or character templates from a catalogue of more than 100 predefined body types, facial features and clothing styles can be modified. The character can then be downloaded and used in various Autodesk modelling tools.
The Pinocchio technology is intended to be available until the end of September.
Here you can see a video in which a character generated with Project Pinocchio is used in Maya.
