Requirements
- Completion of a relevant university degree and/or evidence of special artistic and technical abilities
- Several years of experience as a cinematographer in film and television
- Pedagogical suitability and teaching ability, and willingness to help further develop teaching at HFF
- The recruitment requirements are governed by Art. 7 para. 2 nos. 2b and 3b of the Bavarian Higher Education Personnel Act
Duties
In the winter semester 2010/11, the newly founded Department VII “Camera” began training prospective cinematographers for feature, television and documentary film. Dramatic and documentary camera work are treated equally at HFF. In addition, Department VII also offers courses for all directing, screenwriting and production students on image composition and lighting.
A cinematographer (director of photography) with diverse professional experience in all common shooting and post-production processes is sought.
Teaching areas
- Fundamentals of image, lighting and colour design
- Theoretical fundamentals of previsualisation, including lighting simulation
- Fundamentals of digital image processing
- Fundamentals of documentary camera work
- Post-production workflow
Students are to be enabled to recognise and implement the respective dimensions of the aesthetic and substantive effects of images and image sequences.
The chair is expected to be held full-time, i.e. executive management and participation in the further development and implementation of the teaching and examination programme in consultation with the department head.
Participation in HFF’s collegial bodies and representation of the department in media-related institutions and selection committees are also expected.
The other official duties are governed by Art. 9 of the Bavarian Higher Education Personnel Act. At Bavarian universities there is also the possibility of appointment as a temporary civil servant for a period of up to six years.
Applicants who have reached the age of 52 at the time of appointment can no longer be appointed as civil servants. However, they may be employed as a professor on the basis of a private-law employment contract.
