In 2001, Technicolor was acquired by the then electronics group Thomson; since 2010, the company itself has also borne the name Technicolor. Founded in 1915, Technicolor became known above all for its production of colour prints for cinema films.

The Mill was founded in 1990 and primarily creates very great and special commercials. To date, the studio has already received over 1,000 awards. This year, CG Lead Mike Chapman will explain at the animago CONFERENCE how the Audi commercial “Birth” was created.

Technicolor has a strategic roadmap through 2020 called “Drive 2020,” of which the acquisition of The Mill is one step among many others. Through its previous acquisitions of MPC, Mr. X and Mikros Image, Technicolor aims to achieve a global leadership position for visual effects across all areas, including cinema, TV and the advertising industry. The company is also represented at over 10 locations around the world and can serve a broad range of clients. Technicolor also wants to use the experience of the employees at the respective studios to strengthen its own technology platform for the industry.

“With the acquisition of The Mill, we want to improve our market position in visual effects while at the same time increasing the profit and the revenue growth, while simultaneously accelerating the development of new technologies. The Mill is a perfect fit for our current focus,” said Technicolor CEO Frederic Rose.
