This means artists do not have to start from scratch when they want to create a 3D model or scene, but can use preset materials that were created procedurally, hand-painted, or scanned. Allegorithmic states that new assets are continuously being added.

The 3D preview runs in Sketchfab, allowing users to view assets from every angle. The materials from the library are compatible with 3ds Max, Maya, Modo, Houdini, Cinema 4D, or the Unity or Unreal engines, among others. The material library is already included free of charge in the Substance Live Payment Plan.

Substance Suit Tools users are supposed to gain access to the Substance Source library through their software and be able to load material content directly into the shelves.
