Dates, statements and links are preserved from the original.More and more AI-based tools are intended to make everyday post-production easier or better, including the interpolation of video frames. With “DAIN” – Depth-Aware Video Frame Interpolation, universities in Shanghai and California, together with Google, have developed new methods for calculating the frames in order, for example, to create higher frame rates and slow-motion clips from 30 fps footage. To go with it, for almost a week now there has been a free tool with which you can interpolate your own media!

Free DAIN App (Alpha 0.1)

The DAIN App is a free application based on the algorithm mentioned above. It can be used to interpolate various media such as films, stop motion, anime, cartoons or even sprites. Because of its alpha status, the tool is not yet optimised – so do not be surprised by crashes or the file size of the app.

Alongside input file and output folder, the interface can be used to set the desired the target FPS, interpolation multiplier and other options, among other things. A higher frame rate is generated from the original file. To avoid crashes, you should not enable the “Resize” and “Limit Palette” features in the 0.1 release. The software currently works only on Windows and systems with CUDA. Anyone using AMD or older Nvidia graphics cards therefore cannot currently use the app.

Examples From the DAIN App

Go-Cart drivers, Pikachu, Pickle Rick, Cup Head and more: In the clip below, you can watch some results from the AI tool.

  1. Hallo
