RenderMan 24 Introduces XPU, Lama Materials and Live Rendering

Pixar’s RenderMan 24 introduced the CPU/GPU XPU architecture, live rendering, Lama layered materials and expanded stylised-look tools.

Pixar released RenderMan 24 with RenderMan XPU, a new architecture designed to use CPUs and GPUs together.

The release added interactive live rendering and Lama, a layered-material shading system originally developed and used in production at Industrial Light & Magic.

Other changes included RenderMan Stylized Looks for non-photorealistic rendering, OSL support in GPU rendering, improved ACES colour-management support, more realistic surface rendering and a substantially revised RenderMan for Blender integration.
