- VFX breakdown of the Chinese action film “The Rescue”.
- “The Rescue” is the third instalment in a series about people from the public service – coast guard, police and navy.
- The previous films “Operation Mekong” and “Operation Red Sea” are based on factual events.
In nuce: In this VFX breakdown of the Chinese action film “The Rescue”, a coastguard rescue unit has to put personal differences aside in order to join forces and fight a looming crisis as a team – on the water, in the air and always against fires.
What is The Rescue? The Chinese actioner was directed by Dante Lam and was originally due to be released in Chinese cinemas on 25 January 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic. The film is the third part of a series that focuses on people from the public sector. Police forces were the main protagonists in 2016’s “Operation Mekong”, while 2018’s “Operation Red Sea” was dedicated to the Chinese navy. Incidentally, the first two parts of the film are based on historical facts.
What are the previous films about? “Operation Mekong” is modelled on the massacre on the Mekong in 2011, while “Operation Red Sea” is loosely based on the evacuation of almost 600 Chinese from Yemen in 2015. The film series is extremely successful financially in China. We have not yet been able to verify whether Dante Lam is the Chinese Michael Bay.
