In nuce: As part of our weekly recurring series “Animago Afternoon”, we present pearls, treasures and other gems from last year’s Animago film festivals at the best time of the afternoon. This time we’re showing you the short film “Ambition” by the girls and boys from “Platige Image”, which won an award trophy in the “Best Visualisation” category, salvaged from the Animago archives in 2015.
What’s behind Ambition? There’s no question that space travel is once again a topic of the future, and not just since Elon Musk and SpaceX. But let’s leave aside the personality cult of controversial figures in the history of time and space travel: back in 2015, Platige Image took on the challenge of visualising the Rosetta mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) in a VFX short film. Platige realised the CG elements of the film – including the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko and the nanobots – using current data from space and under the scientific guidance of the ESA.
(Wo)manpower: At peak times, 30 VFX artists worked on the project. The team completed the film in six months. The film was directed by Tomek Bagiński from Platige and stars Aidan Gillen from “Game of Thrones” and actress Aisling Franciosi from the TV series “The Fall”.
