Defining the speedometer of the future with motion graphics?

John Lepore, Principal Creative Director of Perception, explains what he learnt from the major Marvel production Black Panther – and how this relates to vehicle interiors.

In nuce: Maxon was not only represented at the Siggraph and IBC industry events this year with its The 3D and Motion Design Show – but also at the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) in Las Vegas. As a follow-up to this year’s NAB, the associated live recordings have now been released as YouTube videos – with John Lepore among the prominent personnel. In the tutorial, John focuses on the topic of motion graphics – and how they can be used to create a futuristic speedometer and other control elements within a Porsche.

Who is John Lepore? John has been working as a lecturer for Maxon for almost 12 years and has also held various positions at the planning and design service provider Percepetion in New York for 15 years (currently as Principal Creative Director). In his self-description at the beginning of the video, John describes himself as a creative consultant for film, tech and the automotive industry. His favourite Maxon software is Cinema 4D. The Marvel films Black Panther 1 & 2, Avengers: Endgame or Spider-man: Homecoming are among his credits within the creative industry. John is particularly proud of the design work he did for the first Black Panther film – together with his team at Perception; Perception was responsible for the title sequence, the previz of the prologue and technology concepts for the first Black Panther film.
