In nuce: In this detailed character design tutorial, published by our colleagues at 80 Level, Arno Schmitz shows how he created the lifelike 3D portrait of his grandmother.
Who is Arno Schmitz? He is a character artist at Guerilla Games, where he has worked for almost ten years. During this time, he has been involved in the development of such gaming gems as “Killzone Shadow Fall” and “Horizon Dawn”. Schmitz was educated at the Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. There he studied Game Architecture and Design. After graduating, he moved to Tuscany, where he embarked on a one-year intensive study programme in painting at the Florence Academy of Art . As you can see, your lecturer Arno Schmitz is highly qualified.
We think so: This tutorial is not just worth clicking on for the grandma factor – even character artists who are uninterested in the over-80s generation can fine-tune their skills here! So, off to the Arno Schmitz tutorial!
Further information: Arno Schmitz’s 3D character projects also know how to inspire (as a fan of primeval monsters, we recommend his work on “Horizon Zero Dawn”). Visit the good man at Artstation!
