Version 9 of Nuke is available for Nuke and NukeX users, while NukeX customers also have access to the ninth beta release of NukeX and the new Nuke Studio software solution.
Nuke Studio is the new member of the Nuke product family, designed to provide a start-to-finish project editing capability, combining the VFX, editorial and finishing processes in one application. We have already reported on the new The Foundry tool here and in DP issue 04/14.
Nuke 9 and NukeX features
The core of the Nuke technology will be updated in version 9, so that Nuke and NukeX will receive the Nuke Studio technology flipbook tool, resulting in integrated and improved player options. In addition, according to The Foundry, the overall performance of the Nuke EXR Reader, the Deep EXR Reader, the Particle System and the Scanline Renderer will be significantly improved. The company has also optimised 2D format support, with Nuke 9 now supporting MXF files, Mpeg2, Sony Raw from the F55 and F65 cameras, AVCI and DV image files. The OFlow enhancements add GPU acceleration to the tools.
Special NukeX and Nuke Studio features
NukeX and Nuke Studio receive a complete overhaul of the planar tracker from The Foundry, with the addition of a planar tracker node with new pattern matching algorithms. In addition, a new motion estimation algorithm has been added to improve the quality and temporal consistency of re-clocked image sequences based on Ocula technology and reduce artefacts.
Additional Nuke Studio features
Nuke Studio is the only version of the tool series to offer a complete online editing toolkit, real-time effects in the timeline, improved control for team collaboration such as script sharing, real-time 4K playback and built-in rendering.
