Participants in the animago AWARD & CONFERENCE can look forward to next year: after seven successful editions in Babelsberg, the animago AWARD & CONFERENCE is moving to Munich. At the same time, the 20th anniversary of the animago AWARD distinction will be celebrated at the new venue.
On October 27/28, 2016, animago will take place for the first time in Munich at the Gasteig Cultural Center.
The Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology and the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich are supporting the event with a total of 200,000 euros. Bavarian Media Minister Ilse Aigner said: “With the internationally renowned animago AWARD & CONFERENCE, a heavyweight event in the VFX industry has been secured for Bavaria. This shows that Bavaria is a highly attractive location in the field of digital media. Through long-term cooperation with the animago AWARD & CONFERENCE, we now also want to generate international visibility.”
Ms. Aigner continued: “This sends a signal, because funding for international cooperation projects will continue to be increased. With 32 million euros in funding, Bavaria was already among the leaders in 2014. In 2015, we increased funding by another million euros. In 2016, we will increase it again by 1.45 million euros for international co-productions focusing on visual effects (VFX) and animation. This means that a total of 4.7 million euros will be available in 2016 to fund international cooperation projects.”
Dr. Hans-Georg Küppers, Head of the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich, added: “With the animago AWARD & CONFERENCE, Munich is setting another milestone for the cultural and creative industries. As an outstanding location for the cultural and creative industries, media art and their technical implementation, Munich is delighted to have secured animago as another important event for discussing artistic innovations in animation and visual effects. In addition, the animago AWARD strengthens the visibility of local digital artists. I look forward to a promising new industry meeting at the intersection of media art, the creative industries and technical realization.”
Prof. Dr. Klaus Schaefer, Managing Director of FilmFernsehFonds Bayern: “At the media location Bavaria, we have outstanding VFX producers whose expertise and know-how have a worldwide presence. By increasing funding specifically for VFX and animation, we can provide even better financial resources here in Bavaria for this area, which is becoming increasingly important for the international market, and also make it more visible to the largest major studios.”
And Karin Lang, Managing Director of Munich specialist publisher ATEC Business Information GmbH, which publishes Digital Production, said: “We are particularly pleased that, thanks to funding from the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology and the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich, we have succeeded in bringing our event, animago AWARD & CONFERENCE, to Munich, the city where our publishing house is based. At this point, however, I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of the State of Brandenburg and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg for the very good cooperation over the past seven years. The fact that animago is taking place in parallel with the Munich Media Days will be very well received by all media enthusiasts, and we expect the attractive location at the Gasteig to bring even higher participant numbers.”
