Epic Games acquired Sketchfab in July 2021, bringing the 3D-asset platform into the Epic family while stating that it would continue operating as an independent brand.
The companies said they would work together to make 3D, augmented-reality and virtual-reality content more accessible. Their relationship had already included an Epic MegaGrant awarded to Sketchfab earlier in 2021.
Epic announced a 12-per-cent reduction in Sketchfab seller fees. Sketchfab Plus became free, with higher upload limits, while the Business membership was retired and its capabilities moved into Enterprise features without an additional charge.
At the time, Sketchfab reported a community of roughly five million users and a library approaching four million 3D assets.
