In brief: Adobe released Character Animator 22.0, its real-time character-animation application. The release was announced at Adobe MAX 2021 alongside After Effects 22.0, Premiere Pro 22.0 and Photoshop 22.0.

Adobe aligned version numbers across its video and audio applications, including Audition, After Effects and Premiere Pro. Character Animator therefore moved to version 22.0 after version 4.0 had appeared in May 2021. The first public Character Animator release dated from 2017.

Features: Body Tracker captured torso, arm and leg movement in real time. The new Smart Replays system was designed to simplify triggering previously recorded animation.

The application had been used by online creators and in the animated comedy series Our Cartoon President.

Character Animator 22 was available for Windows and macOS. Adobe documented the changes in its 2022 feature summary. Digital Production previously covered the public beta and a longer review in issue 04:2019.
