In brief: Mike McCarthy reviewed Premiere Pro 22 for Post Perspective after its Adobe MAX 2021 announcement alongside After Effects 22.0, Character Animator 22.0 and Photoshop 22.0.
Adobe aligned version numbers across its video and audio applications, including Audition, After Effects and Premiere Pro. This produced version 22.0 even though Premiere Pro 15 had appeared earlier in 2021.
Colour and codecs: The review highlighted colour-management support for HEVC and H.264 media, extending formats that had previously been exportable but not handled the same way on import. Premiere Pro 22 also added hardware-accelerated decoding of 10-bit 4:2:2 HEVC files on supported Intel CPUs and colour management for XAVC footage in S-Log.
Interface: McCarthy noted that the redesigned import and export windows initially exposed a reduced feature set.
