Material-Based Ballistics in Unreal Engine

A three-part Unreal Engine tutorial builds server-authoritative bullet penetration with material-dependent damage and effects.

Server-authoritative penetration

Developer wedl3 built a multiplayer ballistics system in which penetration and damage depend on the material hit and the number of layers a projectile crosses. The client sends the impact position, hit object and other projectile data to the server, while visual effects spawn at the entry point.

Three-part implementation

The tutorial series demonstrates shooting through walls and building a comparable material-aware system. Multiplayer authority, collision settings and replication costs should be tested under current Unreal Engine networking before production use.
