Download now: V-Ray to Blender PBR/FBX

A handy function: Transfer PBR materials from V-Ray to Blender as an FBX file – with this script from a clever 3D designer. Is the script worth it?

In nuce: 3D designer James Vella publishes the script “Vray to Blender PBR/FBX”. This allows you to transfer PBR materials from V-Ray to Blender – as an FBX file. If you want to add ambient occlusion afterwards, you will have to do this manually. James promises to create a separate script for this in the future, but is not making any promises for the time being. You can find out everything else about the script at jamesvella.wordpress.com, the download can be found on Github.

The joker among the martinis: Digital Production readers know which joker leads to valuable scripts for 3ds Max: In the past, we have repeatedly reported on Joker Martini’s useful tools for 3ds Max. Discover the wide variety of scripts below. No, this is not an advertorial – but a friendly recommendation.

  • Vertex Colours: Apply vertex colours per element, object or vertex.
  • Lazy Manager: Use this asset manager to compile objects, materials and modifiers across multiple instances.
  • Image Texture Resizer and Material Manager: With Image Texture Resizer you can adjust the size of your images – while the dimensions of the original file remain untouched. The Material Manager, on the other hand, allows you to assign new application areas to materials.
  • Cable Basher: This allows you to create cables along splines. Not only cables, but also pipes, ropes and other similar parametric path shapes can be created.
  • Dashed Spline: This should make it easy for users to convert continuous lines into dashed lines.
