The 2016 animago jury will meet for the first time in Munich on 18 August. The jury will be hosted at the premises of NEC Display Solutions. This year, to mark its 20th anniversary, the animago is being awarded in 12 categories, so the jury can expect another exciting and long jury day in the middle of the summer.
In two categories, the winner will be determined by public voting. In the “Best Still” category, the jury experts will decide on the three nominees and then the public will be asked to vote. For the “Anniversary Category”, our DP team will send its top 20 into the race and you can vote for your favourite from 20 years of animago AWARD. Voting will start on 4 July on the DP website.
This year there are 11 animago jury members and 2 guest jurors:
Günter Hagedorn – animago jury chair
The Hamburg-based graphic designer and freelance editor has been involved with the event since the first animago AWARD in 1997 and is entrusted with the supervision and realisation of the animago AWARD. His responsibilities range from the acceptance of the first submission to the organisation of the jury meeting and award ceremony. He is in permanent contact with the organiser, the trade journal Digital Production and the participants worldwide.
Pablo Bach – Liga 01 Computerfilm
After graduating in design in 1994, Pablo Bach worked as a graphic designer in a large advertising agency, where he came across videotapes from a few animation studios. From this point on, Bach realised that he would find his career path in a studio rather than an agency. He then started his current career as a digital artist in several leading studios. in 2001, he founded Liga 01 Computerfilm, where he is still the managing owner today.
Maggy Fischer – Neverest
Maggy Fischer has headed the post-production department of the full-service agency Neverest since October 2013. The company creates commercials, online films and moving image projects of all kinds, both internally and with external partners. The business graduate can already look back on over 20 years of experience in the field of post-production: before joining Neverest, she was co-founder of the companies Second Unit Services, Stereolize and Ventuz as well as managing director of the post-production company Pictorion das Werk in Frankfurt and Munich.
Mirja Fürst – Digital Production
Mirja Fürst has been working as an editor at Digital Production since 2011 and fills the magazine, website and social media channels of DP and animago with all the important and entertaining things from the CG industry. Her recent stories in DP include making-ofs for “Zoomania”, “Indian Spirit” and “The Revenant”.
Sinje Gebauer – Freelance VFX & CG Producer
Sinje Gebauer specialised in VFX and animation producing during her studies at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. She worked as a VFX producer on films such as “The Little Ghost”, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, the “Vampire Sisters” series and “The Little Witch”. in 2016, she taught the subject “VFX Producing” for the fifth year at the HFF Munich. She is also involved in the school cinema weeks to introduce children to the medium of film and organises the VFX regulars’ table in Munich.
Elisa Krenz – Freelance CG Artist
Elisa Krenz studied Multimedia Virtual Reality Design at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. After graduating in 2009, she moved to Munich and has been working as a freelancer ever since. Her repertoire includes illustration, graphic design, motion graphics, 3D animation, brand identity and corporate design. This year, she will be keeping a particularly close eye on the entries in the newly introduced “Motion Graphics” category at the animago.
Michael C. Müller – adidas
Michael C. Müller has been working as Manager Creation Technologies for adidas AG since 2011. He is responsible for the quality of virtual clothing simulation for the areas of design, marketing and sales. An important part of Michael’s professional role is to work closely with cross-functional teams to develop the latest and best process and technology standards for adidas products.
Rolf Muetze – LAVAlabs
The current co-founder and managing director of LAVAlabs moving images Rolf Mütze worked as a digital artist and supervisor on films such as “The Hobbit”, “Cloud Atlas” and “The Diary of Anne Frank”. He regularly teaches at HS Düsseldorf, the Cologne Game Lab and has been a professor specialising in digital film art at the International Film School Cologne since 2015.
Juri Stanossek – Mackevision
Juri Stanossek started his VFX career in 1994 and has been working as a VFX supervisor since 2004, working on more than 40 TV and cinema projects, including “Rush”, “Ghostwriter”, “Hugo Cabret” and “Game of Thrones”. He is currently working at Mackevision, where this year he is working on the TV series “Gotthard” and the cinema film “The Diary of Anne Frank”, among others. Stanossek has also been a guest lecturer at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy since 2010.
Fuat Yüksel – Trixter
Since graduating from Augsburg University of Applied Sciences with a degree in Design & Animation and a partial degree in Mathematics, Fuat Yüksel has been working as an FX artist using Houdini and Cinema 4D to generate aesthetically pleasing images with a high level of technical complexity. He has worked on numerous commercials and cinema films, most recently Roland Emmerich’s “Independence Day: Resurgence” and many animation projects. Fuat has also been giving regular lectures on 3D and visual effects at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences for several years. He is currently employed by Trixter as Houdini FX TD.
Matthias Zentner – Velvet Mediendesign
Before Matthias Zentner founded his own studio, Velvet Mediendesign, in Munich in 1995, he first studied industrial engineering and then worked as a freelance journalist and photographer for travel magazines. From 1991, he worked as a freelance editor and graphic designer for various TV and cable stations until he discovered his passion for the jobs of broadcast designer, director and post-production supervisor in 1994. Velvet Mediendesign is internationally recognised for its high-quality and original commercials and has won many awards over the years – including the animago AWARD.
Guest jurors in the 20th anniversary year:
Daniel Curio – Bavarian State Ministry for Economics and Media, Energy and Technology
After completing his second state examination in law, Mr Curio began his career in 1999 in the “New Technologies” department of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and, after several other professional positions, became Head of the Bavarian Representation in Québec/Canada, which is part of the Bavarian State Chancellery, in 2009. After his return from Canada, he has been Head of the Film Policy and Audiovisual Media Department at the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology since the beginning of 2015.
Aline-Florence Buttkereit – MediaNetwork Bavaria
Aline-Florence Buttkereit works for MedienNetzwerk Bayern, where she is responsible for “Networking and Communication”. Her tasks include networking media professionals in Bavaria and informing them about trends and innovations in the media sector, such as developments in the field of virtual reality or 360° videos. She also works as an author and presenter and is a lecturer in multimedia storytelling at the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
