Free, compact e-book provides information about Nanites

What are the advantages of Nanites in Unreal Engine 5 – and how do lecturers teach the geometry system to their students?

In nuce: Epic Games has published the free e-book Nanite for Educators and Students. This is according to a report from our colleagues at cgchannel, which refers to the blog entry “Download the new Nanite Teacher’s Guide” from 13.10.2022 on unrealengine.com .

In toto: The e-book comprises a slim 21 pages and provides an overview of how nanites work and how they influence game development – and how they make it possible to calculate complex geometries faster in real time. According to cgchannel, the e-book also discusses the current limitations of nanites and how nanite meshes influence the game art workflow. In her article “Fantastic engines and where to find them” from DP 05 : 2021 , our author Alexandra Kaschny describes Nanites as a geometry system that goes beyond the dimensions of previous geometry densities.

Click further: Even without prior registration, the e-book is available free of charge at unrealengine.com . Digital Production reported on another opportunity to learn more about Nanites on 29 November last year. At that time, Brian Karis, Senior Graphics Programmer at Epic Games, gave a presentation lasting over an hour, explaining what nanites are – and the powerful creative scope they open up. Again on 6 August last year , we referred to a half-hour video from Epic Games explaining how Nanites allow millions of poly models to be rendered in real time.
